OUR FARM

Why do farmers farm, given their economic adversities on top of the many frustrations and difficulties normal to farming? And always the answer is: “Love. They must do it for love.”
— Wendell Berry

We farm on 4 acres of sandy coastal soil in the heart of Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. We previously ran our certified organic operation on 1 acre of leased land in WSÁNEĆ (Saanich) from 2018-2021, and we are now transitioning our new-to-us Qualicum fields from a previously conventional operation to a thriving ecological farm. We use thoughtful management practices, and employ a variety of techniques to sustainably manage the land with care and future farmers in mind. We focus on cultural practices rather than pesticides, and use organic amendments, compost, and low-tillage to build our soil’s health.

We are lucky to farm on a piece of land that supports close-to year round growing, and we use small unheated hoophouses to grow heat loving crops in our cool coastal summers and lots of fresh greens through fall and spring. Our flowers provide extended forage for pollinators and beneficial insects.

As a small-scale farm, we focus on quality over quantity. The varieties of crops we grow have been chosen over years of experience farming, based on what we think tastes the best. We take pride in providing our customers with food as beautiful as it is delicious and nutrient dense.
