Part time field crew

May through mid-September/October (some flexibility on start and end times)

2-4 days per week, 8hrs/day

Our wage is $19-21/hr, dependent on experience, and is supplemented with plenty of farm fresh food

ABOUT US

Fierce Love Farm is a small scale vegetable farm in Qualicum Beach, the territory of the Qualicum First Nation, Snaw-naw-as, and K’ómoks peoples. We sell our produce at the local farmers’ market, and to restaurants and independent grocers. We work hard to provide a safe and healthy working environment, and we strive to be a safe space for people of all communities to work and learn.

Between us we have many years of experience farming on organic farms around BC, and are happy to share our knowledge and passion for farming! We would love to find crew members who are interested in joining our farm for more than one season, and we are keen to build a team that brings different strengths and can all learn from each other.

Please note we do not have on-farm housing available. We are located within a 5 minute drive (or accessible walk/bike) of downtown Qualicum. We do not have the capacity to support international applicants without Canadian residency.


RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for keen individuals to assist with all areas of farm field work including:

●  seeding

●  transplanting

●  weeding

●  trellising/pruning greenhouse crops

●  preparing and amending beds

●  harvesting a wide variety of crops

●  washing and packing crops for market and wholesale

The 2024 season will also provide lots of opportunities to learn about setting up a farm, including building farm infrastructure, which is great experience for those interested in pursuing a career farming! There is also the opportunity to work additional hours at the Saturday farmers’ market.


RELEVANT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

●  Previous experience on a working vegetable farm preferred, or other experience in an outdoor, fast-paced environment

●  Physical and mental fitness for intensive work, and in difficult weather (can regularly lift +40 pounds)

●  Complete tasks in a quick & efficient manner while maintaining excellent attention to detail

● Open and engaged communication skills;

●  Committed to contributing to a safe, healthy, and inclusive work environment

●  Ability to work independently as well as with a team

●  Able to jump in as needed and adapt to diversity of tasks throughout the day

●  Receive and incorporate training and feedback

●  Maintain focus and efficiency while performing repetitive tasks

●  Reliable, punctual, self-motivated


We have 2 farm crew positions currently available.

One position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program (subject to confirmation). Please indicate in your application if you meet the following requirements (only applies to 1 of the 2 positions, please still apply if you fall outside of the age range):

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and,

  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
